Be good at one thing!

You may want to generalize that into “Customer Service” or “Sales” or in my past, “Encompass®️ Administration,” but don’t fall into that trap. Those are not skills. Those are results of a skill which contributes to those successes.

People generally know me for one of two main things, which is either “Getting a lot of stuff done” or “Encompass®️ expert.” Both of these are very true, but neither of which is what I would say that I became really good at as a descriptor.

This one thing I am really good at is “Not stoping.” I don’t stop when I’m tired. I don’t stop when times are tough. I don’t stop when someone tells me to. I choose when and how to stop. I use this skill in many areas of my life. I use it to help others. I use it to learn. I use it to make sure that I am doing everything I can with everything I have.

I choose to be good at “Not stopping” because it touches everything I do. And because I can decide to not stop, I can also decide to stop. It has taken me a few decades to perfect this skill set, but that lines up with the anecdotal 10,000 hours to become a master of anything.

Please reach out to me if you ever want to discuss this and if you want to dig deeper to find that one thing that you can be good at.

I got inspired to share this post from listening to David Heinemeier Hansson and Jason Fried on their latest episode of 37 Signals podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rework/id1264193508?i=1000621612693

Great insights always. If you want to ever see how you can use Basecamp for your mortgage business, let me know. I am the one who introduced the Basecamp platform to the Encompass®️ admin community in 2014. Don’t let anyone else advertising as “Basecamp founder”fool you.
