First, you don't know what you are missing if you've never been to a well-run workshop. When it comes to Encompass®, there are four significant components to becoming proficient.

The first component is having someone present the vital information in a way you can understand. This concept may sound rudimentary, but mortgage lending can be complicated and nuanced. If you have a leader in the workshop, who has never done your job before, it makes the explanations cumbersome and out of touch with reality. On the other hand, when you have a workshop leader who has done your job, and you are there to learn better but has also used the tools for your career in enlightening ways, the effect is immediate. You can't possibly know what you don't know, so you need someone who understands what you need to know.

The second component is understanding the technology you need to use for your job and how to exploit it in the most positive and productive ways possible. If you have ever watched a master of anything when they use the most basic tools, you know what I am talking about. In a workshop, it is critical to have the same technology and settings you were used to so that when you return to your desk, you understand what you can do and should do next. Being taught how to use a tool you cannot access provides absolutely no value. Our Encompass® workshops use homogenous settings and core functionality to ensure you have the best possible opportunity to begin using what you learn in the workshop.

The third, and for some people, the most essential part of a workshop is putting hands on the keyboard to ensure that the learning is well absorbed. There are three primary ways. Most people, indeed, learn by listening, seeing, or doing. Over the last 15 years of using Compass, we have learned overwhelmingly that most people learn by doing. It helps reinforce the listening and watching part and develops muscle memory, which is critical to forming significant behaviors and habits. Therefore, our workshops include hands-on keyboard access to ensure you understand the concepts and learning.

The fourth component is consistent weekly reinforcement. It is not good enough to learn in the classroom; you must be able to meet with and follow up with your workshop leader. Anyone participating in our workshops can subscribe monthly to help with continuing education and the actual workshop. Learning to do your job and grow your career takes time to happen. It occurs in continuity with your experience, the changes in the mortgage industry, and the changes in Encompass®. Access to a weekly workshop meeting helps ensure that your investment into your education is ongoing, allowing you to have limitless positive returns.
